The Meeting Canoe: A Conversation with Dick and Emily Axelrod

This is the 41st video produced in the ‘Just in Case…’ mini-series sponsored by Quality and Equality. In this video we are once again joined by Dick and Emily Axelrod, pioneers of the use of employee involvement to effect large-scale organizational change. Their book, Terms of Engagement, is one of the most significant books in helping organisation leaders understand how to help people to make sense of their own personal change journey, which is critical to securing sustainable change results. Their other books, Let’s Stop Meeting Like This, and You Don’t Have to Do it Alone, have changed the quality of meetings forever. Dick lectures on leadership at the University of Chicago. Emily is President of Berrett-Koehler Authors, Inc. and an executive coach.

Today they share with us one of their creations - The Meeting Canoe. Dick and Emily introduce us to The Meeting Canoe, detail its history, describe meeting fundaments and how to lead engaging meetings, and unpack the neuroscience of effective meetings and how you may support changing your organizations culture one meeting at a time. They conclude with insights and suggestions on how best to improve virtual meetings. It’s an information packed presentation filled with practical steps and items that you can immediately implement to support your client or organization.
